Regulations:
1. Summer restrictions - No carriage may operate above 89 degrees. We defer
to the ASPCA’s discretion, and to maintain optimal conditions for the
horses, carriages are often banned from working when the temperature reaches
87 degrees.
2. Winter restrictions - No carriage may operate below 19 degrees, or during
blizzard conditions. We defer to the ASPCA’s discretion, and to maintain
optimal conditions for the horses, carriages are often banned from working
when temperatures reach the low 20's and even when snow storms are less than
blizzard conditions.
3. Police blockades, construction, or visits from important political
figures may cause streets to be closed down in New York City, including in
Central Park. If the carriage is unable to gain access to your pick-up point
or desired route, Manhattan Carriage Co. is unable to circumnavigate the
authorities and cannot be held responsible. Your pick up point and
destination may have to be altered, or re-scheduled during one of these rare
incidences. We will do whatever we can to re-schedule your reservation or
adjust your pick up location or route if we encounter these types of street
closures; however, the carriage drivers are often not notified of these
closures until they actually occur.
4. Four (4) adults per carriage, or: 3 adults & 2 kids under the age of
12, or: 1 adult & 4 kids under the age of 12. These restrictions are
strictly enforced, by law, and are put in place to provide you with a safe
carriage ride as well as promote optimal working conditions for the horses.
We are unable to deviate from these regulations.
5. Monday through Friday, the earliest reservation that we can take is
10AM, On Saturday and Sunday, the earliest reservation that we can take
is at 9am.
6. Prearranged rides start at 59th street and 7th.ave, (otherwise known as
Central Park South and West drive) unless the representative of Manhattan
Carriage that made your reservation dictates otherwise as part of a special
arrangement that you made when you made your reservation. We have found
that 59th st and 7th ave is the most convenient and central location for our
clientele. If you get lost trying to find this location, please notify your
driver right away by calling him. Please review our policies for Lateness,
Cancellation, Re-scheduling, and “no shows.”
7. The last reservation that we can take during the evening shift is 2am.
The Reservation Booking Line office closes at 7pm.
8. By law, the carriages are restricted to the immediate area of Central
Park throughout most times of the day and most days of the week. Rare
exceptions can be made for reservations that take place away from Central
Park; however, for reservations such as these, we need at least 6 days
notice to put through for a special permit with the City, exclusively for
your reservation. At no time, unless special permission is granted, are the
carriages allowed to operate below 34th st (and permission to operate below
34th st is rarely granted). We are entirely subject to the discretion of
the Department of Transportation and the ASPCA, so please keep in mind the
well-being of the horses when requesting any extraneous and extravagant
details that may be involved when reserving your ideal carriage ride.
9. Credit cards,
We only take credit card payments for reservations in very,
extremely rare circumstances, and the charge will include an additional 5%
added to the price of the reservation to account for processing. Credit card
payments can only be processed no less than 3 business days in advance of
your reservation. The industry standard is to have carriage rides paid for
in cash directly to the driver. If you insist on only being able to pay via
credit card when you make your reservation, then your options in terms of
available time slots will be limited since there are only a short list of
drivers that are willing to be paid via credit cards. We apologize for any
inconvenience that this may cause, but we cannot, under any circumstance,
accept credit card payments for reservations that involve more than one
carriage. Clients who refuse to pay cash by the end of their reservation, or
who forget to bring cash to pay the driver after their reservation, will be
charged for the full amount of the ride plus an additional 50% of the cost
of the ride. These charges will be applied to the card that you provided to
us when you made your reservation Please understand that the industry
standard is that the drivers must be compensated immediately by the end of a
reservation. The additional 50% added for clients who forget to pay cash, or
who refuse to pay cash, goes toward insuring that Manhattan Carriage retains
the highest quality of drivers to perform your perfect carriage ride
reservation.
Prepaid
Cancellations will incur a 3.75% service fee. It is not only a fee we
charge . It is a fee that we are charged by our Merchant Service.
